Welsh comics Kiri Pritchard-Mclean and Robin Morgan appeared as special guests on Behnaz Akhgar’s BBC Radio Wales show earlier this month, to chat about their new topical comedy panel show ‘What Just Happened?’, which has been airing throughout July.

Describing the show’s format, Morgan said: “it’s essentially a topical comedy quiz. I host, Kiri’s on every week, and we’ve got three other brilliant panellists… We take a look at the Welsh news, international news, UK news, lots of little silly rounds and basically try to work out what’s just happened throughout the week.”

Their conversation also offered a revealing and insightful glimpse into the creative process behind the show (which is largely written on the day of broadcast), reflecting on the uniqueness of the Welsh comedy writer’s room, and the space the show is creating for new Welsh talent to emerge.

“One of the things I really like about it…” Pritchard-Mclean says, “is that the writer’s room is entirely Welsh, which is an incredible thing and shows how far we’ve come in Welsh comedy since Robin and I started… Now you’ve got this embarrassment of riches of just incredible people..”

“I feel so privileged…” Pritchard-Mclean continues, “that BBC Radio Wales have given us this space to support new Welsh talent, in this really fun way.”

The conversation also warmly reflects on the two accomplished comics’ longstanding friendship and their respective journeys and career trajectories so far.
